NG/LNG Power
Natural Gas (NG) Power is considered to be the most reliable, transitional, low-carbon power production solution on the market today. Recognized globally as ‘green’ and as a transitional power option from fossil fuels, Natural Gas Power offers 24/7 power at a rate that still beats out its renewable power competitors. AGL continues to provide, push for, and develop LNG Power solutions in SE Asia and East Africa. However, with changing environments, the cost effectiveness and future validity of NG Power is now being threatened as many countries aim for a smaller carbon footprint. NG/LNG Power is still regarded as a crucial piece for reliable growth in developing countries. But in more developed countries such as Canada, there are regulations set for maintaining power reliability at a cost of zero carbon. With an aggressive approach to improving one’s zero carbon agenda, technologies such as Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS) have been the center of attention for the past 12 months. This technology is crucial, as it allows NG Power to stay relevant as low-to-zero carbon and continue to reliably power countries such as Canada into the future.
In Cambodia and similar markets in SE Asia, LNG Power is seen as a transition to long-term, reliable power. AGL is focusing on this solution for its Cambodia project.
In East Africa, while renewable power is strong, there is a growing concern on the heavy reliance the region has on renewables and its instability due to inconsistent rainfall. AGL has been invited to develop a Natural Gas Power solution for the region.
In Canada, NG is still seen as a transitional fuel. However, with recent regulation changes, NG Power is at threat due to the requirement of limiting carbon emissions. AGL is focusing on building a NG Power Plant in Alberta with Carbon Capture and Sequestration.
What is Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS)?
Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS) is a combination of two actions.
Carbon Capture is the action of capturing carbon emissions from the flue/exhaust gas created from a combustion process involving fossil fuels.
Carbon Sequestration (shown in the diagram below) is the act of compressing and pumping CO2 emissions into a depleted oil or gas reserve or similar.
Combined, the CCS application allows carbon emissions to be captured from the flue/exhaust gas, compressed, and pumped into (ideally) a depleted oil or gas reserve in the ground.
When added to NG Power, CCS helps produce reliable power that emits 90-100% fewer carbon emissions.
